The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) played a central role in the 18th ASEAN Food Conference, held in Davao City, Philippines, highlighting its commitment to advancing food science globally and strengthening collaboration with ASEAN partners.
IUFoST leaders contributed significantly to the scientific program. Prof. Samuel Godefroy, IUFoST President, delivered a special message emphasizing science-driven solutions for resilient and sustainable food systems. Prof. Pavinee Chinachoti, IUFoST President-elect, delivered a plenary lecture on shaping the next generation of food scientists, while Prof. Aman Wirakartakusumah, Immediate Past President, gave a plenary lecture on strengthening food science for a sustainable ASEAN. Dr. Richard Khaw, IUFoST Board Member, also shared his expertise as a panelist.
The IUFoST College of Early Career Scientists (CECS) added to this strong presence by organizing a pre-conference workshop, Exploring Opportunities in Food Science Today and Beyond. Moderated by Dr. Elizabeth Arenas (Philippines) and Dr. Dominic Agyei (Australia), the session featured interactive discussions and mentoring from Prof. Aman, Dr. Khaw (IUFoST Board Member), Prof. Sebastiano Porreta (IUFoST Board Member), and FIFSTA President Julieta Austria.
IUFoST’s support extended beyond the scientific program. Prof. Pavinee Chinachoti also joined the FIFSTA meeting virtually on September 25, reinforcing IUFoST’s close ties with ASEAN scientific bodies. Through these contributions, IUFoST reaffirmed its leadership in connecting global and regional food science communities to address pressing challenges and build a sustainable future.
